The Huntsman

Cars have stories in more ways than we might think. They relate to us, tell something about us and enable us to do things in our daily lives. The Huntsman captures all of this in a fictional narrative, putting a vintage Cadillac into a story that celebrates the character and design of the car.

This project is a work in progress, and this page will update as pieces come together.

The Car

The Huntsman is a restoration project. Beginning with a derelict 1949 Cadillac Series 62 Convertible with a vague provenance and no interior, it has become a blank canvas for a creative alterative history.

The Design

In 1949, General Motors created 4 themed show cars for the first Motorama show (the original Auto Show). What if there was a 5th car? Using the theme of “The Huntsman” to direct color and trim, as well as the unique original Chartreuse paint code, a period correct custom design theme has come together.

The Story

What happened to the Huntsman after the Motorama ended? In late 1949, famous Hollywood actor Clark Fable (obviously fictional) bought the car after falling in love with it on the show floor (referencing Gary Cooper’s yellow Duesenberg story in 1932). He then sent it to Southern France where it began to bring up some strange memories of his past…
